Question: Can it bore concrete?
Answer: Yes. I drilled with a 10mm drill through concrete, and the 996 did a great job. it could definitely drill wider through concrete.
Question: Is this better than the atomic series ?
Answer: Yes. This is far better than the atomic series.

Awesome set. Both pieces, drill and driver, get a huge amount of use in my shop. I work on motorcycles, racing karts, cars, and wood working in my garage/shop. Both get a huge amount of use. I finally cut the cord with my electric drill (although for really heavy duty use I still have my 3/8″ and 1/2″ corded drills in my toolbox and use this drill the majority of the time. Put together an impromptu club house for my son with leftover plywood and 2x4s, bouncing back and forth with both tools to drill holes, drive screws and it was way easier than running a cord out to the yard. The driver is great for removing nuts and bolts (although I don’t use it for installing except for bigger nuts and bolts that I know I won’t over torque, then finish with a torque wrench). Easier even than using my air tools although due to the form factor my air ratchet gets more use around my car (and of course air impact driver for removal of wheel lug nuts – this driver doesn’t have to torque to deal with lug nuts at 94 ft lb). Lasts a long, long time on a charge. Get it, you won’t regret it.

I’ve already gotten a lot of use out of these. The larger battery packs lasts forever, I’m by no means a professional (just do small house projects), but with the battery life I’ve experienced these could easily be professional use without running low and needing to recharge often. Even with the larger battery packs the tools have a nice balance and aren’t too heavy for my use (6 ft, 205 lbs).
The Impact Driver is excellent, with a nice degree of torque settings to offer everything between light/delicate assembly use to full on heavy duty use like firmly tightening bolts. Haven’t used the drill a ton yet but it’s worked for the small jobs I’ve needed it for and always have the plug in drill if I really needed the extra power. I put an entire 10×8 yard shed together with the impact driver and didn’t even put a dent in the battery, literally hundreds of bolts/screws and didn’t blink an eye.

This is a fantastic kit! DeWalt sells lots of different kits with the impact and drill, but this one (DCK299P2) is the best one in my opinion. You get two 5ah batteries, and they’re the perfect size/weight batteries for these tools.

When I got these, the batteries had one bar, so I charged them. It only took an hour, maybe an hour and a half to fully charge each of these 5ah batteries. I’ve replaced my mailbox and drove 3/8 x 4″ legs bolts through 3/4 plywood and into a treated 6×6. I built a handrail for a disabled friend’s house, I’m currently remodeling a barn and have driven probably two pounds of wood screws, I’ve reinforced the handrail on my Dad’s frint porch, I swapped out the track on the barn door, removing eight 3/8 lag bolts, and reinstalling them. ALL BEFORE CHANGING THE BATTERY! The battery life is amazing.
I love the screwdriver setting on the impact, and the bright bright 20 minute flashlight setting on the drill. I didn’t even know they had those features, they’re just bonuses.
I also have the 1/2 impact and love it, and the 20v, 7 1/4 circular saw which is extremely satisfying powerwise.
